Virat Kohli’s captaincy in IPL has been under the scanner of late. While there are few denying the fact that Virat is one of the most passionate scholars of the game, this is also true that neither team India nor RCB has won a single ICC or IPL trophy under his captaincy.
After conceding a 6- wicket mauling by Delhi Capitals in the 55th match of Indian Premier League, Royal Challengers Bangalore was almost out of the race for Playoffs. However, a slightly better net run rate saw them qualify for playoffs ahead of KKR. In eliminator 1, RCB were up against rampaging Sunrisers Hyderabad, who stormed into playoff winning their last three matches in league stage. SRH made short work of RCB threat to knock them out of the tournament.

After RCB lost the match, Gautam Gambhir had questioned RCB management’s decision to stick with Virat Kohli – the captain. However, it’s highly unlikely RCB going to change Virat Kohli- the captain in next season because of these three reasons-
The Brand Value: Virat Kohli comes with the highest brand value in IPL. The Indian skipper has been the poster boy of Indian Cricket after Sachin Tendulkar and MS Dhoni. He endorses 20 brand and is the highest paid Indian celebrity according to the Celebrity Brand valuation study by Duff & Phelps. His brand value was estimated USD 237.5 Million for 2019 almost double than second-ranked Akshay Kumar. RCB could not risk taking Virat out of the equation as as profit-making is the prime goal of any franchise.
The Fan following: Despite being one of the most unsuccessful franchises in IPL, RCB’s fan following is massive and one of the reasons behind that is Virat. Virat is one of the best batsmen in limited-overs cricket. He is the highest scorer in IPL and his following on Instagram is stunning. Removing Kohli means, a large shift in fanbase and RCB can’t afford that.
Virat – the performer: RCB might have not have won the silverware in 13 editions but Kohli performance as batsmen is seldom under doubt. Virat has accumulated 5878 runs for RCB, most for any batsmen in IPL, forming one of the most dependable partnerships with AB de Villiers in middle overs. RCB would not like to lose a performer like him at any cost.
