In the upcoming series against Australia, which will start from November 27th will be India’s comeback in the international matches. So, they will definitely aim to remark the comeback with a victorious win. As Rohit Sharma is not included in the squad for the limited over cricket, so it will certain to miss him at the top.
Rohit Sharma is currently facing hamstring injury so the management had decided to give him some rest. In the absence of Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul will take the responsibility of Vice-captain. Furthermore, in the absence of India’s opener it is a big question who will be the opener for India in the Australian series. Rohit has done much and more for India as opener and played many crucial roles so it would be very difficult to replace in such format where he is master-class.
These are the 5 players who could replace Rohit as opener-
The first player who could possibly replace Rohit will be none other than India’s skipper Virat Kohli. He often used to open for Royal Challengers Bangalore and moreover he plays crucial and good knock when he used to bat as an opener. He had registered 5 centuries in IPL while opening the innings. Kohli has amazing batting order by scoring 2345 runs in just 61 innings with superb strike rate of 140.17 and an average of 47.86 as an opening batsman.
He has opened innings for India in 13 innings in which he has scored 198 runs in 7 T20I innings whereas in 6 ODIs innings, he registered a score of 161 runs with an average of 26.83.
Sanju Samson was always been in discussion for Indian squad as he was very destructive in this season of IPL2020. He played good knocks while playing for Rajasthan Royals. He is yet to debut for India in ODIs format. He has played 4 T20Is and but didn’t done worth remembering. By giving a chance as an opener, it would give him a platform to prove at international level.
Gill has been magnificent while playing for World cup U-19. He also had been very good in IPL while playing as an opener for Kolkata Knight Riders. He had just play 2 international matches and only scored 16 runs with a strike rate of 50 against New Zealand in 2019. So it would be likely to see him as an opener.
In terms of scoring runs, Mayank Agarwal would be good option as an opener as he had shown the ability of hitting boundaries in this season of IPL2020. He had also registered his maiden ton against Rajasthan in this season. With tremendous season in this year Mayank will be likely to open the series.
If we talk about the best openers then KL Rahul will the number one contender. He was the orange cup winner in IPL2020 while opening the inning. He had been superb among others in comparison to open the inning. It would be entertaining to see the vice-captain opening the inning against Australia.
