Yesterday, BCCI announced team indie’s squad for West Indies tour. All the rumours came to an end after the team announcement. Virat Kohli continues to lead the team while MS Dhoni is not retiring from international cricket. MS takes two months break from cricket. Yesterday chief selector MSK Prasad gave all the questions, answer related to captaincy and MS Dhoni’s retirement.
“He [MS Dhoni] is unavailable for this series. He has expressed his unavailability. Having said that, we had certain road maps till the World Cup. Subsequently, post the World Cup, we have laid down few more plans. We thought of giving as many opportunities to Rishabh Pant to see he is groomed. That’s our plan right now,” Chief Selector MSK Prasad told the press in Mumbai.
The selection committee chairman added: “We did discuss with him [Dhoni’s future].
“Retirement is purely individual. A legendary cricketer like MS Dhoni… he knows when to retire. But as far as the future roadmap is considered, that is in the hands of the selectors.”
Chief Selector MSK Prasad also speaks about Risbah pant place in the Indian team.
“Pant will be playing all three formats for India, his workload management crucial,” Prasad said
“First of all, we don’t have to discuss about it (strike rate in the World Cup). Secondly, we are grooming youngsters now,” Prasad said.
“Rishabh Pant has not done anything wrong for his non-inclusion in the squads. Rishabh Pant is going to play all three formats. So we need to manage his workload. So, Wriddhiman Saha and KS Bharat will come into the picture.”
Team India will tour West Indies at the start of next month where they can plat three T20Is, three ODIs and two tests. The tour will begin from August 3 with the T20I series.
