Former Indian test opener and active commentator, Aakash Chopra, in his latest tweet, has backed Royal Challengers Bangalore to get an IPL title this year. RCB has been one of the most popular franchises in the IPL with a large no of fan base throughout the globe but they are one of the most unsuccessful franchises also.
In the 12 seasons so far, they have not managed to win the coveted IPL trophy even once. Although they had a captain in the form of Virat Kohli, India’s most successful test captain, and a 360-degree player, AB de Villiers, along with Mr. T20, Chris Gayle, in their ranks. RCB never managed to win the trophy. There was also an era when these three machines of destruction played together. But, RCB somehow or the other, couldn’t just cross the finishing line.
One must wonder what does it takes for a star-studded line up to emerge victorious. RCB has tried it all in their recent seasons, they went for names like Shane Watson, Mitchell Stark, they also made an almost impregnable T20 batting line up but only to finish up as second best thrice in the tournament.
In this year auction also they did a good work making a team almost from the scratch. They have included T20 stars in the form of Australian limited overs captain Aaron Finch, Josh Philippe along with Kane Richardson, Chris Morris and Isuru Udana to boost their bowling prowess and provide depth to the line-up.
Chopra in his tweet, mentioned the depth of the line-up and wrote, “Kohli, Chahal, Dube, Sundar, Saini….five current Indian T20i players. All of them were in the playing XI today. Add Finch, ABDV, Mooen and Steyn/Morris/Kane Richardson to it. Plus Devdutt Pallikal. Gimme a reason why #RCB shouldn’t do well in #IPL2020” backing RCB to win a title this year.
This year’s IPL will have its own significance as next year will saw a complete overhaul of the teams in a Mega Auction. This year will also be a stern test of Virat Kohli’s captaincy as he has failed in all major tournaments as a captain. With a very strong first XI filled with seasoned campaigners and a good blend of youth and experience it will be RCB’s season to lose.
