Nowadays, predicting XIs has become a trend and this trend is continuously attracting the attention of all cricket lovers. Many cricket players are predicting different types of XIs these days. Latest in this process is former Indian cricketer Aakash Chopra, who has now picked current best test XI. He posted a video on the same on his YouTube channel.
For the roll of openers, Chopra picked Kiwi opener Tom Latham and current Indian test opener Mayank Agarwal. Tom has a total of 3726 test runs at an average of 42.34 under his name. Although Mayank has not played much cricket at international level, yet his first class record speaks of him.
At no. 3 and no. 4 slot, he chose current world No. 1 and No. 2 test batsmen Steve Smith and Virat Kohli. Both are considered as best cricketer in the longest format of the game in modern day cricket. They average 62.84 and 53.63 respectively in test cricket. The captaincy of the team is also handed over to Virat.
In middle order and lower middle order, Aakash selected the likes of test captain of England Joe Root at no. 5, English all-rounder Ben Stokes at no. 6 and South African captain and wicketkeeper Quinton de Kock at no 7. Ben Stokes is the lone all-rounder in his team. de Kock got an upper hand over BJ Watling because of his aggression and was also trusted for the role of wicketkeeper.
In the bowling department, lone spinner is Australian Nathan Lyon. It is surprising that Chopra went for Lyon instead of star spinner Ravichandran Ashwin as the lone spinner. Pace bowling will be handled by Australian speedster Pat Cummins, Kiwi speedster Neil Wagner, and Indian Jasprit Bumrah.
Here’s Aakash Chopra’s current best test XI:
Tom Latham, Mayank Agarwal, Steve Smith, Virat Kohli (C), Joe Root, Ben Stokes, Quinton de Kock (WK), Pat Cummins, Neil Wagner, Jasprit Bumrah, Nathan Lyon
He also picked four more cricketers as reserves.
Reserves – Babar Azam, Marnus Labuschagne, BJ Watling, Stuart Broad
