Aakash Chopra, Former Indian Cricketer comes with the most analytical statement for the tournament. He is well known commentator who give quiet sense-full analysis regarding the game and gives insight view to the cricketing fan. As Aakash chopra focused on Kings XI Punjab regarding the conclusion of IPL 2020, suggesting leaving two overseas players that is Glenn Maxwell and Sheldon Cottrell as this team finishes their league tournament in the sixth spot of the points table.
Kings XI Punjab was the team who gets knocked out for the most destiny case. They were the side with having terrible players with all rounded performance but the destiny wrote something off. Glenn Maxwell was one of the most disappointing overseas players of IPL as he had registered 108 runs out of 13 games with a very bad average of 15.43 having awful strike rate-101.89. He was one of the main reasons for the Kings XI Punjab’s underperforming state. He was bought for a whooping amount of 10.75crores. With this disappointment texture one more Sheldon Cottrell was also under performing player, he was consistent in the first half but later on he was thrown out for the huge economy rate. The left arm pacer had only six wickets.
Due to the speculated vision towards mega-auction ahead of IPL2021, Aakash Chopra stated that Kings XI Punjab require to add prominent seamer to their squad as they were leaking out a lot of runs in the death over due to underperforming seamers. According to him, Kings XI Punjab should release Sheldon Cottrell and Glenn Maxwell. He also stated that if Hardus Viljoen seems to be redundant then he should also release from the squad.
“Kings XI Punjab has a reasonable need of a mega auction because they need changes. They have to do something for the last bowling unit because it will not work out with the ones they have. They should leave out Sheldon Cottrell, they should leave Hardus Viljoen also if they are not playing him, and they should leave Maxwell as well”, Akash stated on the Facebook page.
He also stated that the 43 year old Chris Gayle should be retained as he had been the X factor the team. He said that Gayle is not an expensive player so the team franchise can keep him. He said if the two overseas players like Maxwell and Cottrell release then it can be a static move which could be in a favor side for the Kings Xi Punjab.
Aakash Chopra said “They can keep Gayle if he wants to play although he is 41 years old. But the IPL is just a few months away and he was not expensive as well. So they can keep him as he is an X factor and an intimidating factor. Kings XI Punjab might still be able to manage without a mega auction but they will have to do a good selection in the small auction and if they drop those 2-3 big names, they would get a bigger purse to shop whole heartedly”.
