South Africa have played three matches in the ICC cricket world cup 2019 so far and lost all the matches. Now 6 matches are remaining for them. South Africa need to win minimum 5 matches if they want to qualify for semifinals. Their star Bowler Dale Styen ruled out from the world cup 2019 due to injury.
AB De Villiers wanted to play in the ICC cricket world 2019 for South Africa, but cricket South Africa management rejected his proposal. This happened before 24 hours of the team selection for world cup 2019. South African skipper Faf Du Plessis, coach Otti Gibson and convenor of selectors Linda Zondi expressed that ABD wanted to play the world cup 2019 but was told that this would not be possible. According to people privy to the talks, de Villiers’ request was “not even considered,” according to ESPNcricinfo.
In a recent interview with India TV, AB De Villiers said,
“I was keen to play in the World Cup, but I left, I retired. It was a very sensitive situation. For the last three years of my career, I was labeled as a guy who is picking and choosing when I was playing and when not. So I got quite a lot of criticism from back home, which also played a role in me retiring.”
“And it was difficult for me to then go ‘Hey, but I’ll still play the World Cup.’ It’s that picking and choosing things again, and it’s quite arrogant to do something like that. But as they say, you can’t have your bread buttered on both sides,” He added.
AB De Villiers retired from international cricket after the Indian premier league 2019. After retirement, he decided to play in the various t20 leagues. Recently he can play in IPL 2019 for Royal Challengers Banglore.
