On 8th March, Australia Women lift their 5th their fifth ICC Women’s T20 World Cup title with a resounding 85 run victory against India Women. In a dominating all-round performance Australia outplayed India in every department to claim 5th out of 7 Women’s T20 World Cups till date.

India Women once again failed to deal with the knockout pressure as Australian women took their counterparts by surprise from the ball one. Alyssa Healy and Beth Mooney both went after the Indian spinners, after their captain Meg Lanning won the toss and elected to bat.

India fielding also lacked the intensity from the very first over itself as Shefali Verma dropped Alyssa Healy at covers and later Rajeshwari Gayakwad put down a difficult caught and bowled chance to reprieve Beth Mooney. The duo went on to stitch a match-winning 115-tun opening partnership as Alyssa Healy (75) and Beth Mooney (78*) laid a perfect foundation for the hosts. On the back of twin fifties, Australia posted a mammoth 184/4 in 20 overs.

In the second innings, Indian women succumbed to the final’s pressure as Shefali Verma, Smriti Mandhana and Harmanpreet Kaur all walked back to pavilion inside the first power-play itself. Australia’s new-ball bowlers– Megan Schutt (3.1-0-18-4) and Jess Jonassen (4-0-20-3) shared 7 wickets between them to bundle out India for 99 in 19.1 overs.

Following the defeat, a number of Indian cricketers came in the support of women’s team. Former Indian Cricketer, Akash Chopra also expressed his support for the team as he tweeted, India lost only one game in the tournament. So did Australia. Both teams lost to each other. India beat Aus in the tournament opener. Australia beat India in the finals. Such is life…. #WT20WC #AusvInd and asked Indian women’s to move on from defeat and take it into their strides moving forward.

However, One of Pakistani fan looked a bit more ecstatic after India’s loss and compared India’s loss to their loss to Pakistan in the ICC Champions Trophy 2017 in England in the reply of Chopra’s tweet. Same as is champions trophy,” the fan tweeted back.

Akash Chopra however did not look in no mood of withdrawing and valuing such comparisons as he slammed him with one of the sternest replies. Akash wrote, How many knockouts did your team play since that final? Men and Women included. Jinke gharsheeshe ke hote hain voh light jala ke kapde nahin badalte, dost” – making him taste his own medicine.
