Ambati Rayudu was one of the top contenders for India’s No.4 position in the World Cup 2019 but a drop in-form forced the selectors to select Vijay Shankar instead of him for the national team squad in the ICC world cup 2019, which was announced on Monday. The decision left the cricket fraternity in split with many suggesting it was a wrong decision to leave Rayudu out for the World Cup.

On selection of Vijay Shankar over Ambati Rayudu, chief selector MSK Prasad said that “After the Champions Trophy, we have tried a few middle order options. We gave a few more chances to Rayudu but what Vijay Shankar offers is 3 dimensional. If the conditions are overcast. He might bowl a bit and he is a fantastic fielder. He is a batsman who can bowl.”

Ambati rayudu can be understood to be very unhappy about selectors decision. He expressed his thoughts about the decision in a very canny way. He said “Just Ordered a new set of 3d glasses to watch the world cup” in a tweet from his official twitter handle.

The tweet can be understood to be a dig on Chief selector MSK Prasad as he said that they have preferred Vijay Shankar over Ambati Rayudu because of Vijay’s 3-d abilities.

But according to experts the decision was taken considering that Vijay Shankar was in good form as compared to Ambati Rayudu who is out of form. Another factor is that Vijay Shankar can both bat and bowl whereas Rayudu is a batsman only. From last one year India tried many players including Vijay Shankar and Ambati Rayudu. Both performed well but Vijay’s all-rounding capabilities gave him an edge over Rayudu.

World cup will start on 30th may but India’s will start their campaign on June, 5 at Southampton against South Africa. All eyes will be on team India during World Cup.
