BCCI have announced venues for play-offs matches of IPL 2019. Earlier, BCCI have announced venues of only league matches but delayed the announcement of play-offs matches because of general elections. Today, BCCI have announced venues for play-offs matches of IPL 2019 also. Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad will host the IPL 2019 final.

Chennai were set to host play-offs matches of IPL 2019. But Tamil Nadu Cricket Association failed to get a permission to open stands I, J and K at the MA Chidambram Stadium in Chennai resulting in losing of hosting of IPL 2019 finals. Hyderabad was expected to host the Eliminator and Qualifier 2 as it was the runner-up in previous season. But due to elections scheduled on May 6, 10 and 14 there it will not be possible. The police will not be in a position to provide the required security and permissions for the IPL due to the elections.

Playoffs are generally hosted in the venues of the winners and runners-up but above mentioned problems forced BCCI to change final match venue and bring in Visakhapatnam in the scene. Now, Chennai will host Qualifier 1 while Visakhapatnam will host the Eliminator and Qualifier 2.

Committee of Administrators (CoA) chief Vinod Rai said “We had to shift the matches from Chennai to Hyderabad after TNCA intimated us that they have not procured the requisite permission to open the three stands I, J and K. Since the gate sales of the knock-out matches is BCCI’s prerogative, we had to take a call. We would be having two knock-out matches in Vizag.”

On asked by reporters if the tickets of three stands are not available in Chennai why is Chennai being offered to host Qualifier 1; Rai defended the decision by saying “CSK, by virtue of being defending champions, were allotted the Qualifier 1 and final. Now, if they finish in top two, you cannot take away all the games. They deserve to get at least one of the knock-out games.”
