In a last month and so, the COVID-19 virus has created havoc in the world. The virus has infected 198 countries till now, infecting over 7 lakh people and consuming around 35,000 lives in this duration.
To combat the ever worsening situation, Indian Government have also locked down the whole country till 14th April in order to control the COVID-19 threat. People have been forced to go in self quarantine mode to maintain social distancing and break the chain of CORONA virus.
With the lockdown, Sports events the world over have also taken a drubbing over the last few weeks. The Virus has also cancelled all the cricket action for now. Even the much awaited Indian Premier League is on the verge of getting cancelled.
BCCI has cancelled all the proposed meetings till 14th April and if the latest reports are to be believed, the BCCI is now waiting for the final word from the Indian government and the sports ministry about the status of foreign visas.
The board is also expected to take the final call just after the end of lockdown period. Speaking to the Indian Express, A BCCI administration source has confirmed that BCCI has made up the mind to take a final call on the IPL 2020. There are also reports that BCCI is also planning to cancel the next year’s IPL Mega auction.
“IPL will not happen this year. It will now happen next year. We all know how the situation is at the moment in the country and no one will take any risk. One can’t have social distancing in the stadium. It’s better to play IPL next year. Also, no mega auction will take place. We will inform the franchises once we get final confirmation from the Indian government, the same season can continue next season,” said the source.
BCCI is also looking to host IPL this Year
If, the Indian cricketing board will have to convince the Asian Cricket Council to postpone the Asia Cup 2020. Then this window will be opened to Host the IPL 2020
“We are closely monitoring the situation, and we will take a call accordingly. We are looking at a window in August-September,” told a BCCI official to Hindustan Times.
