Bharat Arun, team India’s bowling coach, is the man behind India’s superb pace bowling attack in recent times. Arun has worked day and night as a foundation stone to from a deadly pace contingent that can beat any team in any conditions.
Since his early days in coaching profession, Arun has worked with all of Mohammad Shami, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Jasprit Bumrah, Ishant Sharma, Umesh Yadav at both national and international levels.
Bharat Arun has not only groomed their skills, but has also ensured that they do not lack pace like their predecessors. At present, each one of them is capable of clocking 140 kmph consistently throughout the match. Recently, on a show hosted by Indian women cricket team coach WV Raman, Bharat Arun revealed the secret behind the improvement. Raman said that workload management has proved to be one pivotal difference for the fast bowlers. Raman consistently monitored their workload by a GPS tracker to analyse the progress and give inputs back to the bowlers.
“When we talk about workload management, we are looking at the number of overs a bowler has bowled. But then a bowler can over-exert himself in a game and that is not under your control. So we use the GPS tracker to monitor all his movements on the field,” Arun said on episode three of Inside Out, a show hosted by India women coach WV Raman.
“For example, a bowler runs around 20 km on the field. And the tracker gives us a lot of data and information about the bowler concerned. By analysing those data, you can manage the workload at training sessions. Basically, you need to find the right balance. And the Indian bowlers have managed to do that so far. This is the reason why we are successful as a bowling unit and the bowlers can bowl at 140 kmph regularly.”
