‘Mankading’ is proving to be an intriguing topic this season. After Ravichandran Ashwin took everyone by surprise after ‘Mankading’ Rajasthan Royals’ Jos Buttler last season, the ‘Mankading fear’ has dominated this season also.
A few days ago, R Ashwin issued season’s first and final warning for batsmen after catching Royal Challengers Bangalore’s Aaron Finch out of non-striker’s end in his run-up. Although like last season, Ashwin didn’t ‘Mankad’ Aaron Finch this time, yet he made sure Finch doesn’t leave the non-strikers end early for the time being.
The Ashwin effect was evident on the 27th match of the season as playing against Chennai Super Kings, Aaron Finch looked alarmed at non-striker’s end. In the first over of the match, Chennai Super Kings bowler Deepak Chahar tried to ‘Mankad’ Aaron Finch on the second ball of the over. But the RCB opener was alert and inside the crease as Chahar turned back in his run-up to take the bails off.
Though this ‘cheeky’ attempt from Chahar ended up in gauging looks, Chahar had his man in the third over of the match, when he bowled the opener with the perfect in-swinger to catch him off-guard. The ‘mock mankanding’ incident immediately went viral on social media as fans come-up with epic one liners to describe the ‘Cheeky Chahar.’
Though Deepak Chahar bowled an impressive spell of 3-0-10-1, Chennai Super Kings succumbed to their 5th defeat of the season. After Bangalore posted 162-5 in 20 overs, CSK’s batting woes continued in old fashion as they lost the match by 37 runs. Virat Kohli was named ‘Man of the Match’ for his brilliant 52 ball 90 in first innings of match.
