The World is under the Corona Virus Threat and with each day the Virus is spreading like a wild fire across everything- from societies to cities and then to countries. Almost every single country has taken precautionary measures to stop entering the virus into their territory. Yet the virus has managed to infect a number of countries across the world.
The outbreak of coronavirus has started to make its presence felt in the global sports events also as the government of many countries has put led on mass gatherings. Yesterday, England captain Joe Root also announced that in the upcoming tour of to Sri Lanka, the English team will avoid shaking hands in a bid to avoid the coronavirus threat.
Now, in the latest unfortunate development, Nepal government has advised the people to refrain from mass gatherings. In a bid to follow the government orders, the organisers of Everest Premier League, Nepal’s domestic T20 Tournament, has postponed the league till the conditions get in control.
“We are naturally all sad at today’s announcement of having to temporarily postpone the 2020 EPL, but we simply have to put the health and well-being of all Nepalis and our overseas players before everything else.
“It was crucial that we announced this decision now at the earliest possible juncture to ensure the minimum possible disruption to all of our stakeholders, who are integral parts of the ongoing success and growth of the league,” EPL Managing Director Aamir Akhtar said in a statement.
In 2020, the Everest Premier League is all set to enter into its 4th edition. The League started its journey in 2016 and since then it has gained popularity gradually. Universe Boss Chris Gayle has also signed a contract to play for Pokhara Rhinos in EPL 2020.
While the organisers haven’t mentioned the exact date of the rescheduling of the tournament, they have cleared that the tournament will be rescheduled –the closest possible time whenever the situation is favourable.
