The much-awaited 13th edition of Indian Premier League is all set to begin in September 2020 in the thick of Novel Coronavirus pandemic. Earlier the T20 tournament, which was scheduled to be played from 29 March earlier this year, was postponed for indefinite period in the wake of CoViD-19 outbreak.
However, the postponement of T20 World Cup 2020 by International Cricket Councilto next year has given a new lifeline to IPL 2020. The postponement vacated the September – November window for the BCCI to organize 13th IPL. In no time, theBCCI utilised that time and fixed a schedule for T20 extravaganza 2020.
A meeting is planned by the IPL Governing Council in a week’s time to prepare the roadmap for organising the marquee tournament. BCCI is planning to shift the IPL 2020 to the United Arab Emirates as the cases of Corona is on continuous rise in India. Now, it is expected that the tournament will be played in UAE from September 19 to November 8. However, the official announcement for the same is awaited yet.
With the expected dates for the tournament being announced, all the IPL franchises are planning to start their training programmes. Some of the players have already started training at individual level. All the teams are expected to reach UAE by the third week of August. However, Captain-cool MS Dhoni led CSK is expected to reach their by the 2nd week of August to adapt themselves to the conditions prevailing there and get in-form before the tournament. They have been away from any kind of cricket since the start of CoViD-19 pandemic.
With the announcement of the IPL, MSD fans have gone berserk on social media since Dhoni will be back on the field after a long period since the semi-final of World Cup 2019.
