Deepak Chahar, Indian swing bowler, has been side–lined of the action at least till March-April next year. Earlier, Chahar has complaint of Lower back pain after the second ODI at Vizag after which he was suggested rest by BCCI medical team.
On Monday, BCCI chief selector confirmed that the bowler will miss the upcoming series against Australia and Sri Lanka as Chahar was not selected in the squad for the series.
MSK Prasad said, “Till March-April, I have my own doubts”, on asking about Chahar’s return to the fold, he further added, “His lower back injury was aggravated. Technically, Nitin Patel would be able to check with, but as of now it is a back injury.”
Deepak Chahar was ruled out of the third ODI against West Indies after which BCCI named Navdeep Saini as his replacement. BCCI also released a statement at that time, “Deepak felt mild pain in his lower back following the second ODI played in Vizag on Wednesday,” the BCCI stated in a release on Thursday (December 19). “The BCCI medical team examined him and has suggested that the fast bowler needs some rest in order to fully recover. He has thus been ruled out of the final ODI”.
For the upcoming series against Australia and Sri Lanka BCCI has announced the teams on Tuesday. Navdeep Saini has been drafted in the squad in place of Chahar for all the squads.
Navdeep had a mixed outing in the 3rd ODI against West Indies as he impressed with his pace and Yorkers in the first and second spell of his bowling. He even claimed 2 wickets in the middle overs. However, in the slog over, he went a little bit off radar against the likes of Pollard and Pooran and conceded some boundaries to finish with the figures of 10-0-58-2.
