Indian opener Shikhar Dhawan, who has been out of the team for the injury he sustained playing for his home team Delhi in Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, will require more time to recover from the injury a report in BangaloreMirror stated.
BCCI selection committee is expected to name a replacement on 15 December for the ODI series against West Indies. India’s current test opener Mayank Agarwal is likely to replace Shikhar Dhawan in the ongoing ODI series after the completion of three match T20I Series.

Mayank is presently playing in first round of Ranji Trophy for his home team Karnataka against Tamil Nadu in Dindigul. If he is called up for the upcoming ODI series, he will have to miss the second round of Ranji Trophy matches starting December 17.
Earlier in the previous month, Dhawan suffered a freak knee injury while fielding during Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, that ruled him out of the T20I Series against West Indies. As he was replaced by Kerala Wicket-keeper Batsman Sanju Samson for T20I Series.
Before the West Indies series, a statement had been released by the BCCI, it read, “The BCCI Medical Team assessed him to review the healing of his wound. The BCCI Medical Team has suggested that Dhawan needs some more time for his stitches to come off and his wound to heal completely.”
Now, with Dhawan needing more time to recover, the report also states that Sanju Samson could continue as a replacement in the ODIs. However, It will be interesting to see, if Mayank Agarwal, who was also called as cover after Vijay Shankar’s injury in CWC 2019, gets another chance with team. He has been in red-hot form this year amassing runs at Internationals and Domestics continuously. He also played an important part in Semi-finals and Finals of Syed Mushtaq Ali trophy helping his team win title.
Other players who could be in the squad are Shubhman Gill and MayankAgarwal.
