BCCI will announce the team India squad for West Indies tour on Sunday. But before this, MS Dhoni has made himself unavailable for the tour of West Indies. A BCCI official said that he will be spending two months with his paramilitary force. He will take two months break from cricket. India will tour West Indies for three T20Is, three ODIs and two tests. The tour will begin from August 03 with the T20 Series.
A top BCCI official confirmed the development.
“Dhoni has made himself unavailable for the tour of West Indies as he will be spending two months with his paramilitary regiment,” the official told PTI.
“We would like to say three things. He is not retiring from cricket right now. He is taking a two-month sabbatical to serve his paramilitary regiment which he had committed much earlier,” he said.
“We have now intimated his decision to skipper Virat Kohli and chairman of selectors MSK Prasad,” the senior official added.
With Dhoni pulling out of the tour, Rishabh Pant is expected to be the first wicketkeeper in all three formats.
Bharat Arun said that it’s unfair to blame MS Dhoni for the world cup semi-final lost.
“It was very unfair. He (Dhoni) has contributed so much to the Indian team, is a legend. In fact, on many occasions, Virat Kohli bounces ideas off Dhoni, respects him. In the semi-final, we were all confident till Dhoni was there. We could see he was lining himself up for the big hits in the final over. Sadly, the run-out happened,” Bharat Arun Said.
After the West Indies series, India will play against South Africa at home. India and South Africa will play 3 T20Is and three tests during this series. The tour will begin from September 15.
