Maharashtra pacer Digvijay Deshmukh has been reported for the suspect bowling action in a Ranji Trophy match against Jammu and Kashmir. This was also the debut match of the pacer.
Digvijay Deshmukh was one of the surprising picks in the IPL auction as Mumbai Indians roped in the Maharashtra Cricketer for his excellent show in the Syed Mushtaq Ali trophy. He was picked at his base price by the franchise.
However, just a week after the auction, the bowler has been reported for suspect action in his debut match against Jammu and Kashmir. Riyaz Bagwan, the secretary of the Maharashtra Cricket Association (MCA), also conveyed the same in his talk to the TOI. He said that the pacer has been reported for the suspect action in his career and the pacer has been released from the squad and that he will go to MRF pace foundation in Chennai to rectify his action.
“He was reported for suspect bowling action in the previous match. We have received the letter from the match officials regarding details of the incidence/s i.e. innings, over No., and time. I have handed that letter to the team manager and the coach but I am unaware of the details of it,” stated Riyaz before adding, “Although he is not suspended (from bowling) we do not want to take any risk and have excluded him from the squad for the Ranji game vs Chhattisgarh (starting Wednesday). He was recently picked by Mumbai Indians in the IPL auction and getting suspended could affect his confidence, which we want to avoid, as he is an extremely good bowler. He will be travelling to MRF Pace Foundation, Chennai on Thursday, where his action will be rectified.”
Deshmukh had a great debut for Maharashtra as he scored 83 runs with the bat whilst also picking up six wickets in the match. However, we will have to wait for how the things turn out after the report from MRF academy but as of now the trio of Player, state team and Mumbai Indians will be in a little bit tension.
