Today, England have announced their 14-member squad for the first Ashes Test. The Ashes will begin from August 01. Jofra archer received his maiden test call-up while Jos Buttler returns in the test team. Joe Root will lead the ashes side while Ben Stokes re-appointed as a vice-captain of England team. Jason Roy made his test debut against Ireland recently. He also included in the first Ashes test squad.

Moeen Ali and Joe Denly are the two spin bowling al-rounder. Experience Stuard board and James Anderson will lead the bowling James Anderson could not play against Ireland due to injury. But now he recovered from injury and back into the Ashes squad.

National selector Ed Smith said, “Though it is unusual to select a squad of 14 for a home Test, there are compelling reasons to do so here. Several bowlers are recovering from injuries or niggle.”

“In addition, some bowlers who played in the World Cup are being closely monitored to assess their preparation for Test match cricket.

“The wider circumstances – a successful home World Cup campaign followed so quickly by a home Ashes series – are unprecedented. It feels sensible to select an expanded squad and leave a number of bowling options open for the final team selection.”
