Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings are the most successful franchises in the little history of tournament. And a lot of credit of their success goes to their captains Rohit Sharma and MS Dhoni respectively. While Dhoni have led Chennai Super Kings to three IPL titles in his reign, Rohit Sharma’s Mumbai Indians Paltan is the most successful IPL franchise with four title wins under Rohit Sharma’s captaincy.
However, a lot of credit for their success also goes to the most settled and strong outfits they have at their disposal. This time around also both teams had a strong squad going into the tournament but the absence of Suresh Raina and Harbhajan Singh due to personal reasons have tilted the balance in favour of MI.
“I feel the Mumbai Indians have the upper hand if you see the balance and depth of the squad,” said Gambhir. Gambhir also feels that the acquisition of Trent Boult will give Mumbai an advantage and allow them to use Bumrah more productively and freely. “They have also added Trent Boult to their squad, who will give them a very good option. Because you want a bowler who can give you wickets with the new ball so that you can use Jasprit Bumrah in a different manner. So I will want to watch how these two perform, not only in the first match but in the entire tournament,” added Gambhir.
The two powerhouses of IPL will be up against each other on 19 September at Abu Dhabi. While Mumbai Indians will have a full-fledged squad at their disposal, CSK will be battling one or two issues going into the match.
