After being knocked out of the playoffs race in IPL 2020 a week ago, Chennai Super Kings have played the role of party poopers perfectly as they registered third win on the trot to throw KXIP out of tournament.
In the last three matches, CSK have beaten Royal Challengers Bangalore, Kolkata Knight Riders and Kings XI Punjab chasing the target courtesy the 23-year old Ruturaj Gaikwad. After being missing out on first few opportunities, the Pune born came to the party hitting three consecutive half-centuries at his preferred opening position.
After winning the toss, MS Dhoni chose what has been working for them (to bowl first) but both Mayank Agarwal and KL Rahul came hard at CSK bowlers as they duo added 48 runs inside 6 overs.

However, Lungi Ngidi had other plans as the pacer plucked out both Rahul and Mayank in short span to push KXIP on backfoot. Other CSK bowlers utilized and maintained the pressure created by Ngidi to block the run flow in middle overs before Deepak Hooda played a nice cameo at the end to take KXIP at 153-6 in 20 overs. In reply, CSK batters chased down the target with little fuss to win the match by 9-wickets.
Sam Curran, the CSK all-rounder, was seen having a moment with cricket commentator and legend Ian Bishop over the party poppers tag given to CSK. In a pre-match, the 22-year old boasted how they are enjoying knocking other team out of tournament after they himself got knocked out. “Other teams partied the other day when we beat Kolkata, they are probably struggling for the playoffs now. Now hopefully if we beat Kings XI, they’ll be out as well. It’s all good fun,” Sam Curran told Bishop.
Ian Bishop then called Sam Curran ‘naughty’ for playing the party pooper. Bishop said: “That’s very naughty of you really to be spoiling other people’s parties all the time.”
Sam Curran, who was in jolly mood, did like the compliment and replied: “They spoiled out party earlier in the competition by beating us. So let’s try beat them today,” clearly indicating the mentality with CSK approached the match.
