On Monday, Donald Trump, The US President finally arrived in India for the much-anticipated visit. The US President was welcomed at the Ahmedabad airport by India Prime Minister Narendra Modi and a thousand no. of fans.
After welcoming him with a warm hug, the Indian Prime Minister took the US President to Mahatma Gandhi’s Sabarmati Ashram along with them was Trump’s wife and first lady Melania Trump.
From Sabarmati Ashram, the duo headed to the newly built Sardar Patel Stadium in Motera. Trump addressed over 1.10 lakh spectators in a jam-packed stadium on the occasion of ‘Namaste Trump’ event. With the speech the US President also inaugurated the Stadium which will be now the world’s largest cricket stadium with a capacity of 1,10,000 people.
Donald Trump in an excellent speech showered praises for India as mentioned every possible bright thing about India. From Bollywood’ DDLJ and Sholay to Cricket’s Sachin and Virat- in the speech Donald Trump left no stones unturned to heap praise on India.
However, he did make everyone laugh with his pronunciation and accent while naming the things in his coveted speech. Trump, while naming the two Indian cricket’s stalwarts, struggled to pronounce Sachin’s name as he pronounced Sachin as ‘Soochin Tendolkar’ and Kohli as ‘Virot Kolee’ while addressing a massive crowd at the stadium.
Hearing the names of their most beloved cricketers of all time, the crowd broke into applause forgetting the fumble in enunciating the names of two legendary Indian batsmen. However, International Cricket Council did not spare Trump for his fumble. ICC, in a tweet, took a dig at the US President’s unsuccessful attempt to pronounce Sachin Tendulkar’s name. In the video posted by ICC, they can be seen modifying Sachin’s name to Soo-chin Tendulkar in their database.
