World cup is just a month away now. Host England will start the world cup on 30th may against South Africa. England has to play a bilateral series against Pakistan and a one off match against Ireland before starting their world cup campaign. But before that injury troubles are not leaving England. Earlier Jason Roy and Sam Curran got injured. Now, Sam Billings have got injured. Ben foakes has been called up as his replacement.
The right-handed batsman Sam Billings had recently returned to England after his contribution for CSK in the Indian Premier League 2019. He played just one game and that too because MS Dhoni was injured. He got out at zero in that match and was never included in playing XI after that.
Sam Billings returned to England to play in county cricket. Billings was playing for his county side Kent against Glamorgan at Cardiff when he suffered the injury. He dislocated his shoulder just minutes into his first match. Billing is part of one-off ODI against Ireland, before world cup. He may miss this match due to injury now.
After his injury Sam Curran talked to BBC and said
“That’s got to be the frustration with niggles around among the batsmen so that could be an opportunity, but you can’t think like that, it is what is is, I just wanted to play some cricket (after playing just one IPL game). The innings that I played from an England point of view – I’m easily good enough to perform consistently at that level so it’s just a shame I’ll miss out on that opportunity. But I will be back in an England shirt sooner rather than later hopefully.”
Billings will have a shoulder scan on Friday and take specialist opinion to determine the length of his lay-off.”Without a doubt, it’s the most painful thing I’ve ever experienced. Thankfully I’ve never been injured seriously before, but one hour and 20 minutes with your shoulder not back in its right place isn’t a great time for anyone. But there are worse things going on, it’s not ideal but I’ll rehab it when I can, I’m seeing a specialist tomorrow with different scans and tests, and I’ll get fit and firing as soon as possible since I’ve been starved of cricket.”
However, there is good news for England as their world cup bound player Alex Hales has joined the training sessions for ICC world cup 2019. He has earlier taken an indefinite break from cricket leaving his team Nottinghamshire in between of county cricket matches.
