MS Dhoni’s case has been a curious one since 2019 World Cup semi-final. The wicket-keeper batsman took an indefinite sabbatical from cricket right after the semi-final loss against New Zealand and has not represented man in blue since then.

MS Dhoni, however, will be looking to make a comeback in the Indian colours through the IPL 2020. Though the marquee tournament has been hit by the CORONA Virus and If the circumstances remain the same, the tournament might be cancelled by the BCCI.

Though, the commentator and cricket expert, Aakash Chopra believes that IPL is never going to be a yardstick for MS Dhoni and the legendary wicketkeeper batsman can still make it to the upcoming World T20 in Australia.

In a YouTube video, Chopra said, “For a player like Dhoni, IPL was never going to be a yardstick. If he had scored runs in the IPL, experts would have been like ‘select Dhoni’, ‘do this and do that’. MS Dhoni knows what he is doing, whether he wants to come back or not.

Aakash Chopra also stressed the fact that if selectors have faith in MS Dhoni then he will be an automatic choice in the Indian team for his experience.

“IPL, I don’t think was a critical factor. If he wants to come back, he will make himself available, if the selectors decide to pick him, he will be picked automatically because you won’t get experience in supermarkets. Dhoni is a hugely experienced player. If India needs MS Dhoni, then with or without IPL, he will come back, added Chopra.

After the World Cup 2019, Pant has been given ample opportunities by Indian team in quest for a young dynamic replacement of MSD. The youngster has been given numerous chances across formats in this period but Pant never came close to making the spot his own in any format.

But with KL Rahul being groomed as a full time wicket keeper, one thing is sure that if Dhoni is looking to make a comeback to the International Cricket the upcoming IPL season is going to be a critical one. And if Dhoni manages to pull off one more good season under his belt, Dhoni might still have an outside chance of making it to India’s ICC T20I World Cup 2020 squad.
