The world has been taken aback and in last couple of days, the threat of Corona virus has increased multiple folds. The virus has made its presence felt in almost 118 countries across the globe with over 1.2 lakh people getting affected and death toll rising up to 4 thousand. The sports bodies across the world have either cancelled or postponed global and domestic sports tournaments.
Even the players and the coaching staff have been found positive in many cases. Australian speedster Kane Richardson had also complained of sore throat just before the first ODI against New Zealand. And in a wake of corona virus, Kane Richardson was kept in a separate room away from the other members of the squad.
On Friday, however, the speedster tested negative for the Corona Virus and the fast bowler will join the team from the second ODI. While his cover in the first ODI- Sean Abbott will now join his domestic team.
“Our medical staff are treating this a typical throat infection but we are following Australian Government protocols that require us to keep Kane away from other members of the squad and perform the appropriate tests given he has returned from international travel in the last 14 days,” a Cricket Australia spokesperson said earlier in the day.
Coming to the first ODI, after Aaron Finch opted to bat first, Australia posted a decent score of 258-7 with the help of three half-centuries from Warner, Finch and Labuschagne. In reply, New Zealand batters could not set up the chase as they were bundled out on just 187 runs – not even playing their full quota of overs. The quartet of Pat Cummins, Mitchell March, Adam Zampa and Josh Hazlewood proved too lethal as Pat Cummins & Mitchell Marsh picked three wickets each and Adam Zampa & Josh Hazlewood shared rest four wickets equally.
