Kings XI Punjab have traded their captain for the last couple of years, Ravichandran Ashwin to Delhi Capitals during the trade window.
R Ashwin, the former Chennai Super Kings led, was given the captaincy ahead of the 2018 season, when he was bought for a record breaking sum of 7.60 Crore.
However, Kings XI Punjab, finished in the bottom half of the table in both seasons.Kings XI Punjab were guilty of not putting up consistent performances even after promising start of both the seasons. Despite consistent performances from the Indian opener KL Rahul franchise failed to progress beyond league stages on both counts. Their most successful run was in 2014 when they reached in the finals of the event.
Ahead of the next year’s IPL Kings XI Punjab have traded Ashwin for MayankMarkandey to Delhi Capitals. They also let go their long serving batsman David Miller, all–rounder Sam Curran, T20 specialist Andrew Tye. Along with these three, the franchise also released Varun Chakravarthy, Simran Singh, Moises Henriques and Agnivesh Ayachi.
KL Rahul to be the new Captain of Kings XI Punjab?
As the news is coming, Kings XI Punjab might name new captain for their team just after the auction.
KL Rahul might be trusted with the role of captain as he has been the star performer for the team in last couple of seasons topping the batting charts for the franchise. In both seasons, he showed remarkable consistency at the top of the batting order. In the last two seasons, he has scored 659 and 593 runs respectively with the help of 12 fifties and one century.
With Anil Kumble, legendary leg-spinner, taking the role of head coach, reports are that KL Rahul can be rewarded for his remarkable performances. The former Sunrisers Hyderabad and Royal Challengers Bangalore’s player has never led a team in the IPL.
