The stage is all set for yet another T20 series for team India. This time against a team that dismantled them for a paltry 79 runs in the first league game of last World T20 in 2018. Indian team has arrived in Auckland just after 4 days of the final match of the ODI series against Australia and they must be feeling jet lagged.
The schedule has been getting tight for the Indian team with every year and within 4 weeks of the new year India is all set to play their Third limited series of this year. Speaking ahead of the series opener Indian Captain also talked about the schedule. Virat Said, “It’s definitely getting closer and closer to landing at the stadium and playing straight. That’s how compressed the game has become. But I think this kind of travel and coming to a place which is seven hours ahead of India time is always difficult to adjust to immediately,“addressing the press conference on the eve of the match.
Virat Kohli also praised India’s new limited overs keeper KL Rahul for his versatility and the innings he played against the Australia in the second ODI. Virat Kohli also said that in the shortest format of the game they will continue with the KL Rahul the keeper as it will also help them add an extra batsman in the already strong XI and KL can easily move back to his preferred opening slot.
Virat Kohli said, “In the one day game we will have to think of sticking to the same what we did in Rajkot I think that would probably work best for us as a side. Have another guy at the top and then let KL just express himself at that position where he played really well. In T20 cricket obviously the dynamics change a little bit more because we do have lower order batsmen who have done well. So we have a few more options in terms of solidifying that spot and letting KL bat at the top. As I said, him doing well with the gloves has really opened up a scenario for us where it gives us a lot more balance in playing an extra batsman and if he can keep playing that well, perform well with the bat, then why not.” Prithvi Shaw likely open in the ODIs against New Zealand.
Kohli was also vocal about the versatility of the Karnataka batsman and praised him for performing well in all kind of roles. “He’s open to accepting any kind of role, whatever the team wants. He is a total team man and you can tell the way he keeps as well, he is always looking for an opportunity and looking to make a play. He’s not nervous about it. Just the collection of the throws and getting to the stumps every ball, he is just in the game. I think he relishes that much more than just being on the field and it’s showing. He is more involved in the game, he is able to look at the field placements as well. I think it engages him into the game in the right manner and it’s wonderful to have a guy who does both things well and brings balance to the team.“
