When it comes clean hitting in Cricket, there are a few people who can match Glenn Maxwell at present. The right-handed Australian batsman has earned himself a name in T20 cricket especially in IPL for his breath-taking hitting ability.
There was a time in 2014, when M&M (Maxwell and Miller) show was talk of the town. That season, the duo tormented the bowlers with little pity as KXIP ended runner up that season. In 2014, the BCCI had staged the first half of IPL in UAE and Maxwell, after two below par seasons in IPL, scored 552 runs with the help of 4 fifties at an astonishing strike-rate of over 187. In the first five matches that were played in UAE, Maxwell went 95, 89, 95, 15 and 6 to leave an impression of his hitting prowess.
And again, when BCCI is all set to stage IPL 2020 in the UAE, Maxwell has issued the warning to all the bowlers. Maxwell has kinda love affair with the batting in UAE and it’s no surprise, the right-hander is quite confident of coming good again.
In a conversation with ‘Cricbuzz’, he said, “The conditions seem to suit me. The grounds are big so there are a lot of open spaces, there’s something about the ground that really suits my eye, there’s not a lot of bounce, when you find grounds like that, you start to get on a run. It’s where I had my debut series with Australia in 2012 and ever since I’ve had a love affair.”
After parting ways with KXIP in 2018 season, Maxwell is back with KXIP for this season. The franchise bought back their star player in this year’s IPL auction after bidding heavily for him. And Maxwell too will also be itching to go in the upcoming IPL 2020. This season KXIP has one of most fearsome batting units and the addition of all-rounder will enable them chase any total on the big-grounds of UAE.
