The speculations about MS Dhoni’s future has been taking an eternity to die down. In a latest report a player, who had played alongside the legend, has claimed that MS Dhoni is not too keen about making an international return and does not want to block the progress of other players who can fill the void created by the legend’s absence.
“Now there is no motivation to play anymore. When there are people he feels who can replace him, he doesn’t want to block their chances,” a teammate of MS Dhoni said.
However, MS Dhoni is likely to represent Chennai Super Kings at least till 2021 before taking any decision on T20 League. “He will take a call probably after the next year IPL on how to go about things in the T20 league,” the player was quoted as saying by Sportskeeda.
The source also quashed the reports that MSD was planning to make an international return through IPL. “When there is nothing to prove, where is the question of playing IPL to get into the Indian team. If the intention was to play in the T20 World Cup, MS Dhoni wouldn’t have stopped playing the shortest format of the game. His rejection of the selectors’ offer to play the home series against South Africa was a strong enough indication that his international journey is over.
“Dhoni can still demand a farewell game, but he isn’t ready to disturb the combination of the Indian cricket team. He believes that Rishabh Pant can do a very good job both behind the stumps and with the bat,” a source close to Dhoni added.
Former Indian Captain has been the hot topic of debate ever since the 2019 World Cup. The champion player has not played any kind of Cricket since the loss against New Zealand in the semi-final of the Men’s ODI Cricket World Cup 2019. After the loss, Indian stalwart MS Dhoni took indefinite sabbatical from the game.
While it would be difficult to say what MS Dhoni has planned about his future but as he will be turning 39 in July this year, his chances of international comeback look quite bleak.
