MS Dhoni’s future has been the talk of the town for more than a year now. The champion player has not hit the strides since the loss against New Zealand in the semi-final of the Men’s ODI Cricket World Cup 2019. After the loss, Indian stalwart MS Dhoni had taken indefinite sabbatical from the game and has not played a single competitive match since then.
MS Dhoni, who turned 39 on July 7, was initially planning to make a comeback in March 2020 by IPL, before the CoViD-19 pandemic shattered the world in bits. In the meantime, the telephone talks about MS retiring from the game caught everyone’s attention and there were strong speculations that the legend will announce his retirement anytime soon.
However, contrary to the reports, MS Dhoni’s close friend and Manager Diwakar has stated that MS Dhoni is not done as of now and he is determined to make a comeback and play IPL. Diwakar also reminded the time when Dhoni’s eagerness took him to the CSK training camp a month before scheduled time.
“Being friends, we don’t talk about his cricket. But looking at him, he’s not all thinking about retirement,” Diwakar told PTI. “He is very determined to play the IPL. He has worked really hard for this. If you remember he was there in Chennai one month in advance before everything was shut down.”
Diwakar also pointed out that Dhoni has maintained his fitness regime and has kept himself as fit as a youngster. He also said that the legend’s comeback will depend on how fast the situation returns to normalcy.
“He has maintained his fitness regimen at his farmhouse and will start practice after the lockdown is lifted. Everything now depends on how fast the situation returns to normalcy,” Diwakar said.
While Dhoni looks geared up for a comeback, his future more or less hangs on the fate of IPL 2020. BCCI is also trying its best to stage the marquee tournament and has clarified that a decision on IPL will only come after ICC’s call on World T20 2020.
