The introduction of T20 Cricket also paved way for the franchise cricket as soon after winning the inaugural T20 World Cup BCCI came up with the idea of Indian Premier League. 12 years later, IPL stands as the best cricket league across the globe.

The 13th edition of the league was all set to be rolled out from 29th March, before the deadly pandemic postponed the tournament indefinitely. In the 12 seasons so far, Mumbai Indians leads the trophy cabinet with four title wins in all these years. England’s Wicket-keeper batsman and Rajasthan Royals star player, Jos Buttler has termed Mumbai Indians the Manchester United of IPL.

Manchester United are the most successful football club in the English football history. Manchester United is one of the most widely supported football clubs in the world. The famed club have, so far, won 20 Premier League titles since its inception.

Jos Buttler, who has also played for the franchise in 2016-17 before moving to Rajasthan Royals in 2018, said, “I loved my time with Mumbai as well and I’ve loved Rajasthan equally as much, two different franchises. Mumbai Indians are sort of the Manchester United of the IPL, such a massive team with such a massive following,” Jos Buttler said in a BBC podcast.

During a couple of year time with Mumbai Indians, Buttler understood the ins and outs of the franchise. Buttler also felt the warmth of huge fan-base that the Mumbai based franchise have.

Since its inception, Mumbai Indians franchise have been the household of many big stars of International Cricket. In the form of Rohit Sharma, the franchise also has a captain whose track record speaks highly of him. Since taking the reins in 2013, Rohit Sharma has led Mumbai Indians in 104 matches, winning 60 of those with 4 title wins, maximum for any franchise in the short history of the tournament.

The introduction of T20 Cricket is possibly one of the biggest revolutionary things that has ever happened in Cricket. The T20 format has helped Cricket in truly becoming a World sport over the last decade.
