Navdeep Saini, the young fast bowler from Delhi, might share the fast bowling duties along with Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammad Shami on team India’s tour of Australia. Team India is scheduled to play 6 – limited overs internationals and 4 – Tests on the tour of Australia.
But sadly, team India is currently riddled with injuries to their premier fast bowlers. Both Ishant Sharma and Bhuvneshwar Kumar, who got injured in the ongoing IPL, are now nursing injuries at National Cricket Academy Bangalore.
While Ishant Sharma is nursing rib-cage muscle injury, Bhuvneshwar is working on his ankle injury. Apart from the duo, selectors are also sweating over the fitness of Hardik Pandya. The fast bowling all-rounder hasn’t looked in best of the forms with the bat and on bowling part, he hasn’t bowled a over in IPL 2020 yet.
“His [Pandya’s] body can’t take the longer version at the moment, he is fine for the shorter versions though,” a BCCI source said on Hardik Pandya’s participation in Tests.

Hardik Pandya is currently working on new bowling action with Mumbai Indians’ director of cricket operations Zaheer Khan and is highly unlikely to participate in Test series against Australia.
With Hardik effectively ruled out of Tests and both Ishant Sharma and Bhuvneshwar Kumar nursing injuries, Navdeep Saini is the best available option right now. The fast bowler has been in the reckoning for a Test debut from a long time and his recent form in the IPL has also been very good.
The selection committee hasn’t yet announced the squads for Australia tour as the BCCI is still waiting for an official itinerary from Cricket Australia. Team India’s players and support staff will directly fly to Australia from the UAE and the Tests specialists along side head coach are likely to join the team after a mandatory six-day quarantine in Dubai.
