The right handed duo of Prithvi Shaw and Ajinkya Rahane is set to represent Mumbai in an all-important clash against Karnataka in the third round of the current Ranji Season. The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA), on Monday, confirmed that opener Prithvi Shaw and middle-order batsman Ajinkya Rahane both will represent Mumbai in the crucial clash against Karnataka. The third round of Ranji Trophy will start from January 3. Mumbai will take on Karnataka at the Bandra Kurla Complex in Mumbai.

The duo also featured in the first two matches for the state side against Baroda and Railways. Mumbai started the Ranji season with a bang as they thrashed Baroda in the first match before Railways shocked them in the second match.

Mumbai team was expected to be joined by the young duo of Shreyas Iyer and Shivam Dube for the clash against Railways. However, both the Indian Internationals choose to take a break after the national duty, skipping the match without prior notice.

Mumbai officials and other cricketers condemned the duo for skipping the match. After the heart-breaking loss against Railways a top official of MCA also talked to TOI on Friday. He said, “It’s an unfortunate episode for Mumbai cricket. They told us that they had been ‘advised rest’ by the BCCI. However, when we checked with the selectors, we were told that there was no such instruction sent out to them from the selectors, at least. So, who asked them to rest? The physio of the Indian or the trainer? Or did they choose to rest themselves and fired from the Board’s shoulder? This is something that no one in the MCA, including the selectors, has appreciated. This issue will surely be discussed in the next Apex Council meeting of the association. We may take some sort of action soon.”

As an immediate action MCA has not selected the duo for the clash against Karnataka. However, Shreyas and Dube both will join team India for home series against Sri Lanka.

The duo did feature in each of the state side’s first two games against Baroda and Railways and will be looking to bat their side to victory come Friday.
