Suresh Raina is one of the finest middle over left-handed batsmen, Indian has been blessed with in last decade. The dashing batsmen from UP broke into the Indian team in 2005, at just a tender age of 19.
In his 14-year career, Raina played with two generations of Indian Cricket that ranges from the giants such as Sachin Tendulkar, Virender Sehwag, Rahul Dravid, Sourav Ganguly to the modern legends in Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma and MS Dhoni.
The 2011 World Cup-Winning champion was lucky to play alongside two of greatest batsman of Indian Cricket – Sachin Tendulkar and Virat Kohli. During his international career in which he represented India in over 300 matches, Raina analysed Virat and Sachin both from close quarters.
In a recent talk with Hindustan Times, Raina tried to draw a line between the two legends Sachin and Virat. Praising the duo for their passion for the game, Raina said, “Sachin and Virat, they both score a lot of hundreds, Virat wants to win every game. And Sachin wants to make sure everything is very calm,” as quoted by Hindustan Times.
Suresh Raina also heaped praises over little master for his calm demeanour and never say die attitude throughout the 2011 World Cup campaign. “With Sachin, it’s always about his calmness. It was because of Sachin that we won the World Cup. He was the guy who made everyone in the team believe that we can do that, He was like the second coach in the team.”
“And Virat, he has been amazing in all formats. He has been a very good captain. He has been hitting the ball very well. He is very fit, very positive and he has the aura around him. I am glad I have played with both of them.”
Raina also acknowledged and praised the humbleness and humility, Sachin has imbibed in himself even after reaching at unimaginable heights in Cricket. Raina, who himself is a big fan of Messi, also compared the duo as he said “I am a big fan of Messi. He is so down to earth, Both Sachin and Messi are very good when it comes to taking care of people around them because in sports you need to be really humble. You may be the number one player in the world, but your legacy is very important, You need to show gratitude to everyone.”
