On Wednesday, Kolkata Knight Riders registered their third win of the tournament against Chennai Super Kings. With the win, KKR also moved in the upper half of points table. For KKR, Rahul Tripathi played magnificent innings on a night when big guns of KKR failed to fire.
Electing to bat first, KKR sent in Rahul Tripathi alongside Shubhman Gill to open the batting after his former’s last match pyro techniques with bats. Playing his second game of the season, the 29-year grabbed the opportunity with both hands as he stroked 81 runs off just 51 balls to take KKR at 167-10 in 20 overs.
In reply, CSK had a great start as the trio of Faf du Plessis, Shane Watson and Ambati Rayudu attacked KKR bowlers – mainly pacers- to post 90 runs inside 10 overs. With the chase looking a cake walk from thereon, KKR spinners Varun Chakravarthy and Sunil Narine along side young sensation Kamlesh Nagarkoti strangled CSK batsmen to keep them 10 run short of target.
After the match, Rahul Tripathi was adjudged Man of the Match for his magnificent innings. KKR’s owner Shahrukh Khan also gave him a special compliment by greeting him with famous dialogue, “Rahul, Naam to suna hi hoga.”
Rahul himself was quite happy after back to back good performances. Speaking in post-match conference, Tripathi said: “Something like a dream come true for me. Was prepared for both the roles. Thought the ball was coming nicely, so I thought we should keep up the scoreboard which is why those shots came out, nothing special. It’s a journey. Have loved this journey. Coming to KKR is special. Performing in front of Shahrukh Khan sir is very special. It’s a dream come true.’
