Yuvraj Singh, Former Indian all-rounder and two-time World Cup hero, has asked for patience from the Indian Selectors in case of young pace bowling all-rounder Shivam Dube.
Speaking at the Expo 2020 Dubai Cricket final, Yuvraj Singh termed Shivam Dube as long term prospect who can give consistent performances if given enough chances and time at the highest level.
Yuvraj said, “Shivam Dube I think is a good talent, but you have to give him time. Looking at Dube, you have to give the guy a bit of time and we will see in the future who comes out with the consistent performances.”
Shivam Dube is the latest addition to the limited pace bowling all-rounder stocks of India. The talented youngster from Maharashtra is well known for his effortless six hitting and boundary clearing abilities in the domestic circles.
Dube’s high back-lift and strides could remind you of a young Yuvraj Singhwho used to torment attacks with his effortless hitting. The former all-rounder was instrumental in India’s two both world cup wins. Yuvraj famously smacked 36 runs off a Stuart Broad over back in 2007 and also won Man Of The Tournament award in 2011 World Cup.
Yuvraj also talked about Hardik Pandya’s injury and hoped the fast bowling all-rounder recovers soon. Though like many, Yuvraj isn’t sure whether Pandya would be able to bowl with the same pace. He said, ““Hardik is coming back from a back injury, and bowling fast after a back injury is going to be tough. So I don’t know how Hardik will turn out.
Dube has been continuously given chances in the playing XI in place of injured Hardik Pandya. Pandya, India’s premier pace bowling all-rounder, is still recovering from a back injury that had kept him out of the squad for more than five months now.
In 13 T20Is, Dube has not been so impressive so far. The youngster has scored a sole fifty with mere five wickets at a costly economy. But with Hardik Pandya still not fit for the internationals, Indian selectors are persisting with the youngster for now.
