After the announcement of retirement by India’s best wicket-keeper batsman MS Dhoni, India had faced many consequences in bringing the spark of getting better best replacement of MSD. The management also tried out Rishabh Pant as a wicket-keeper across the formats last year.
‘Who should be the better replacement who can fill the place of MS Dhoni?’- This is the question which is still hanging around in the Indian management and the dressing room. Since the retirement of the greatest wicket-keeper batsman, India couldn’t produce a better replacement. Since India hadn’t found any back up wicket-keeper as Dhoni is serving as a keeper batsman for India since 2004.
The selectors are in a bit of confusion that how can a get a good and promising player as wicket-keeper batsman who can fill the shoes of Dhoni. India even tried out Rishabh Pant behind the stumps across the formats last year. But he couldn’t perform up to the mark even getting a lot of chances. Furthermore, he even lost his place in the white ball cricket within a year. In the recent condition, KL Rahul is assigned as the current wicket-keeper batsman of Indian Cricket Team in the white ball format whereas Sanju Samson is the back-up. Rishabh Pant is not included in the white ball format against Australia series.
For the Test series, the management picked Wriddhiman Saha and Rishabh Pant as the wicket-keeper batsman.
Saha and Pant best wicket-keeper batsmen in the country: Sourav Ganguly
It is bit of suspense who could be the one for the keeper batsman in the playing XI. Is it Pant or Saha? Saha was the keeper batsman when the series was called in home whereas Pant was the wicket-keeper batsman in the New Zealand series.
BCCI President Sourav Ganguly commented that Saha and Pant is the current best wicket-keeper batsman for the Indian Cricket Team as both of them had given positive attribute towards the keeper position. Sourav Ganguly also defended on the poor performance of Pant in the IPL2020 where he ended his league with a decent strike rate of 120.
“He (Pant) and Wriddhiman Saha are our two wicket-keeper batsmen in the Country,” Stated by Sourav Ganguly as said by Hindustan Times.
“Don’t worry. His bat swing will come back. He is a young guy and all of us need to guide him. He is got tremendous talent. Rishabh will be fine,” said by Sourav Ganguly.
During an interview he was also asked about who will the one for wicket-keeper batsman in the Australian series? Ganguly replied with savage style that the player with prominent form will be the one for the wicket-keeper batsman.
“Only one can play, so whoever is in the best form will play,” Sourav Ganguly stated.
