The situation is getting worsen with each day, the Corona outbreak has put the world on halt. Some countries have been forced to lockdown completely while some others are trying their best to stop a possible lockdown.
In last couple of weeks, the subcontinent has also been severely hit by COVID-19 outbreak. With No. of positive cases of Corona infected people increasing every day, BCCI has postponed every single tournament till the situation becomes favourable to resume the cricket again. The IPL has also been deferred at least till 15 April.
Recently, Sports Minister Kiren Rijiju, in a briefing, made it clear that the fate of the Marquee tournament is the decision that will be taken after only 15th April. According to the sports minister- after assessing the situation, the government will come up with a fresh advisory after 15th April.
“After April 15 the government will come up with new advisory and guidelines according to the situation. BCCI is a body that looks after cricket which is not an Olympic sport. But here it is not the question of the sporting event alone but a question of the safety of the citizens. In an event there will be thousands of spectators. So it is not just for the sports bodies or sportspersons it is for every citizen of the country,” the sports minister Kiren Rijiju said.
Sports minister Kiren Rijiju also reiterated that while it is the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) which decides on cricketing matters but the safety of the citizens will remain the paramount concern and in such situation every constitutional body and citizens of country must understand their responsibility.
Indian Premier League 2020 has already been postponed at least till 15 April. With the cases of COVID-19 increasing every day BCCI might have to cancel the tournament.
