With every passing day, the chances of Asia Cup 2020 are diminishing bit by bit. The inter-continental biannual tournament is originally scheduled to take place in September this year but now the tournament is most likely to be cancelled in the wake of Corona outbreak.

The Asia Cup 2020 was supposed to be hosted by Pakistan this year before a disagreement with BCCI forced the ACC to host the intercontinental tournament in UAE.  A few days back, after the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) meeting, some reports had emerged that the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) had agreed to swap rights for hosting this edition.

Neither the ACC nor the PCB has come up with anything concrete on the tournament so far. And with not much time left, the tournament is done for the year. Ironically, such is scenario of Cricket at this time that even the news of cancellation of Asia Cup will bring cheers on the faces of Cricket fans.

The cancellation of Asia Cup 2020 will be a strong indication towards no multination international tournaments being organised this year especially the precariously place World T20 2020. Though the ICC has not taken any decision on the tournament yet, cancellation of Asia Cup will certainly affect the possibility of the tournament.

Moreover, BCCI’s desire to stage IPL 2020 coupled with the economic crisis –  ‘the international boards and players facing’ – will certainly have a say in ICC’s call over World T20 2020. While the ICC will take any call on World T20 in August, the Asian Cricket Council is likely to make a final decision by next week.

If both the tournaments get cancelled, it will clear the path for BCCI to stage IPL 2002 behind the closed doors. Many cricket experts and current players have also voted in the favour of IPL as the IPL will not only financially stabilize the players and game but also provide a much-needed game time for the players.
