The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020 auction is scheduled to be held on December 19, 2019 at Kolkata. All the Eight franchises – Mumbai Indians, Chennai Super Kings, Rajasthan Royals, Royal Challengers Bangalore, Kolkata Knight Riders, Sunrisers Hyderabad, Kings XI Punjab, and Delhi Capitals – will took part in the bidding war to grab hot deals to make a formidable squad. Each franchisee would have marked the players they want to bid for and will be ready to spend huge amountsif needed.
However, this time we have some marquee players who have been released by their franchises ahead of the auction. Whatever the scenario, they are bound to fetch big deals.
On Monday, the IPL Twitter handle tweeted its six top draws for the upcoming auction, out of which four are overseas cricketers – Chris Lynn, Dale Steyn, Sam Curran, Kesrick Williams and two are Indian cricketers – Yusuf Pathan and Piyush Chawla.
Interestingly, All the top draw players have been released ahead of the auction. Lynn, the left handed big hitting top order batsman, was released by KKR and he has set his base price at INR 2 crore. South Africa’s Dale Steyn, who represented Royal Challengers Bangalore in last IPL, is another pick in top draw. He has also set his base price at 2 Crore. England’s Sam Curran is the another name, he represented Kings XI last season doing exceedingly well for them.
In a surprising inclusion, they have also picked Kesrick Williams, the West Indian bowler who largely impressed everyone in recent T20 series between India and West Indies.
While the two Indian players are Yusuf Pathan and Piyush Chawla, both have been released by their respective teams after poor performances in the recent season.
In the second draw we have likes of Glenn Maxwell, Pat Cummins, Jason Roy, Colin Munro, Sheldon Cottrell and Robin Uthappa. Australian duo of Glenn Maxwell and Pat Cummins are bound to go for big bucks in the auction. Openers Jason Roy and Colin Munro, the big hitting openers, will attract the attention of Royal Challengers Bangalore and Rajasthan Royals. Sheldon Cottrell, The WI fast bowler is also expected to be a big hit.
On 19 December, 332 players will go under the hammer for the 73 available slots to be filled by 8 franchises in which 29 slots are available for foreign players. Though we can’t say much about the top picks, yet one thing is sure- this auction is going to be dictated by all-rounders and fast bowlers.
