Anil Kumble, legendary leg-spinner and Former head coach of team India, turned 50 on Saturday. The engineer turned leg-spinner is known for his magical spells that used to turn the matches on its head. After Shane Warne, he was cricket’s greatest-ever leg-spinner during his career. He is also the second person, after Jim Laker, to take all 10 wickets in an innings in international cricket.
Anil Kumble made his international debut as a 19-year-old teenager back in 1990 and went on to represent Indian in 271 ODIs and 132 Tests before bringing down curtains on his illustrious career in 2008. He finished as India’s leading wicket taker in both formats with 619 wickets in Tests and 337 in ODIs.
In the later part of his career, Kumble also captained team India in Test Cricket before coaching the team in 2016-17. But like his international career, he didn’t have a great end of his coaching career for team India.
Both Kumble and current Indian captain Virat Kohli didn’t have a greatest of the relationships as Anil Kumble had to step down from the post of head coach after an infamous incident in 2017. After resigning, Anil Kumble had stated that Virat Kohli’s reservations over his ‘style’ of coaching were the reason behind his decision.
The incident, possibly, was the only blemish in 30 years of stardom for the legend. The relations between Virat Kohli and Anil Kumble are also not good from then. But Virat Kohli, surprised, one and all today, when he wished Anil Kumble on his 50th birth-day. While Kumble’s fans and colleagues poured greetings and wishes for him, Virat Kohli’s tweet went viral as people came up with surprised reactions on his post.
Wish you a very happy birthday Anil Bhai @anilkumble1074. Have a great day.
