Former Indian Test Opener,Wasim Jaffer has supported MS Dhoni to make a stunning comeback in Indian colours after almost 8 months of No-Cricket mode. The veteran, who has opened the batting alongside the likes of Sehwag shared his opinion on his twitter account after his opening partner Sehwag gave a contradicting opinion on the same matter a few days back.
Wasim Jaffer, while terming the former captain an asset to the team, asserted that playing Dhoni will not only remove the pressure from KL Rahul but also give India an option of playing Rishabh Pant instead of Manish Pandey. RishbahPant presence will also slot in a much needed left hander in the middle order.
Wasim Jaffer tweted, “If Dhoni is fit and in form I think we can’t look beyond him as he’ll be an asset behind the stumps and also lower down the order. It’ll take the pressure of keeping off Rahul and India can play Pant as a batsman too if they want a lefty.”
However, his former opening partner, Sehwag, on being asked about Dhoni’schances of making it to the T20 World Cup squad, clearly didn’t look in the favour of Dhoni a T20I batsman in upcoming World T20I in Australia.
Virender Sehwag, questioning his batting position in the current T20I squad, said, “Where will he [MS Dhoni] fit in? With the likes of Rishabh Pant and KL Rahul already in form, especially the latter performing exceptionally well of late, I think there is no reason why we should not stick with them.”
MS Dhoni has been planning to make a successful return to the competitive by IPL 2020. But the COVID-19 outbreak has put all the sporting activities to complete halt for some days at least. Almost every single Cricket Tournament has either been postponed or cancelled in the wake of COVID-19.
