Mumbai Indians, current IPL champions, entered in the VIVO IPL 2020 auction with one of the lightest purses along with Chennai Super Kings. However, they managed to steal quite a few deals at a bargain price.
One of them was the first name in the auction list Chris Lynn. Mumbai opened the bid for the right-handed opening batsman from Australia. To everyone’s surprise no other team bothered to bid for the Australian as Mumbai Indian struck gold grabbing Chris Lynn at his base price, INR 2Cr.
The Australian was expected to fetch more amount than he actually did as he was in superb form in recently concluded T10 league where he aggregated 385 runs at a strike rate of 245.23. He played a crucial role in his team’s title run.
Mumbai Indians Captain Rohit Sharma, reacting to the team’s auction, sent an interesting message on the team’s live video on Instagram. Rohit Sharma , who opened the batting for Mumbai Indians in the last season of IPL, wondered, “where will Rohit Sharma bat?”

He is right in his question as Mumbai already had a pretty strong squad before the auction only, as they had the likes of Quinton de Kock, Rohit Sharma, Ishan Kishan, Suryakumar Yadav, Krunal Pnadya, Kieron Pollard, Hardik Pandya in a pecking batting order.
However, led by their head-coach Mahela Jaywardene, Mumbai Indians added the duo of Chris Lynn and their alumnae Saurabh Tiwary to the batting order. Now, Mumbai Indian will face the problem of a plenty as none of their top-seven is a weak link. They would have walked into most of the elevens automatically, had they been in any other franchise. And in any scenario you can’t bench Chris Lynn on a batting beauty of Wankhede. It will be interesting to see how Mumbai Indians manage this blistering batting line up.
