Why Virender Sehwag and Sourav Ganguly cannot become Team India’s coach?

BCCI is finding the new team management for Team India. They are looking for the head coach, batting coach, bowling coach, fielding coach and physicist. BCCI has put a form on their website; interested candidate can apply on there. Currently, Ravi Shastri is the head coach, Sanjay Bangar is the batting coach and Bharat Arun is the fielding coach. But their contracted expire after the world cup, but BCCI has extended their contract for 45 days. India will tour West Indies for a bilateral series at the end of this month.

So, some of the big cricket fraternity may apply for the coach like Virender Sehwag, Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly and Zaheer khan. But according to BCCI criteria, Sourav Ganguly and Virender Sehwag can not become team India’s coach.

Here are the criteria:

  • Head Coach of a full member Test Playing Nation for a minimum period of 2 years OR;
  • Head Coach of an Associate member /IPL or Equivalent International Leagues/First Class Teams/ National A teams, for a minimum period of 3 years
  • Should have played a minimum of 30 Test Matches OR 50 ODIS OR;
  • Should have BCCI Level 3 Certification or equivalent
  • below 60 years of age

Sourav Ganguly and Virender Sehwag age is under the 60 and played more than 30 test and 50 ODIs, neither of them has any coaching certification nor have coached any international or IPL side in a head coach capacity. Virender Sehwag was the mentor of Kings XI Punjab while Sourav Ganguly was the mentor of Delhi capitals in the IPL, but both of them did not coach any team for three years. So, neither of the two legendary players can apply for the post.
