Indian management is going to face a major head-ache after the series against Sri Lanka as Rohit Sharma who has been rested for the series will make a comeback after the T20I series against Sri Lanka. And with that the management will definitely face the question, “Who is going to partner Rohit at the top of the order?”
This question won’t be easy to answer as Both Rahul and Dhawan has done enough to press their case for the slot. Dhawan has been regular in the team since 2013 champions trophy but his recent form has not been great specially in shortest format of the game and the time is running out for the left hander.
On the other hand, KL Rahul has been in stupendous from since the Cricket World Cup 2019 in which he opened the innings along with Rohit after an injury to Dhawan. Since then he has grabbed the opportunity with both hands. In the series against West Indies, the Karnataka batsman scored two fifties in T20 series along with a century in the ODI assignment. With the T20 World Cup not very far away, Dhawan needs to deliver urgently considering the current form of KL in shorter formats of the game.

Indian Captained was also presented the same question in the press conference before the Sunday clash and Kohli accepted the fact that it won’t be easy to pick one of those.
“As far as the series is concerned, it’s pretty straightforward. Both of them will start (Dhawan and Rahul). But when Rohit comes back, you know, it’s going to be a difficult thing to address because Shikhar Dhawan has been an experienced player but KL is playing so well,”
“So I think we’ll have to decide what’s the best combination that we can go with and who are the best eleven to take the field,” Kohli said.
If we consider the case, we can say that this series will be a direct shoot-out between Rahul and Dhawan for that slot. But it is safe to say that, on the current form Rahul has more chances to make the spot his own.
