BCCI and IPL GC are working day night to get the things finalized for the upcoming season of VIVO IPL 2020. At one hand GC (Governing Council) is trying to get the schedule right on the other hand BCCI is talking to State Boards and International Cricket to get right the venues and availability of players respectively.
According to the reports, BCCI is planning to host the IPL final in Sardar Patel Stadium Ahmedabad. Sardar Patel Stadium is popularly known as Motera Stadium and has been renovated to make it world’s largest Cricket Stadium. The previous stadium at Motera, which had the capacity of 54,000 was demolished in order to accommodate the new stadium.
Motera stadium which was built in 1982 holds the honour of hosting the first ever One Day International match played in India.
The new stadium is Built across 64acres, the Sardar Patel Stadium will boast many distinctive features. The stadium will comprise two academy grounds apart from the main ground and will also have indoor practice facilities. It will also consist of training centres and 55-room clubhouse, Olympic size swimming pool and other sports recreational activities including a 3-D projector theatre.
FYI, the stadium has been completely renovated by Australian Company Populus –which was the chief constructor of then largest cricket stadium, Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG).

The renovation cost of the stadium is around 700 cr. INR and has a sitting capacity of 1.10 Lakh people, it is now the world’s largest cricket stadium, previously it was Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) with a sitting capacity of 1,00,024.
In a Question-Answer round on Sports Tak, a fan asked journalist Vikrant Gupta about the stadium in Ahmedabad. Vikrant said, “Let me tell you one thing, the final of the upcoming IPL season will be played in Ahmedabad. Although we do not know the official dates for the match but the IPL 2020 final will be most likely played in that stadium having 1,10,000 seating capacity.”
It will be a moment of proud for every Ahmedabadian that BCCI is planning to make a grand opening of the world’s largest cricket stadium.
