Team India has started the new year with a bang, winning their first series of year 2020 in a comprehensive manner. On Friday, in the last T20I of the three match series between India and Sri Lanka India at Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune, India thrashed the visitors by 78 runs to clinch the three match series by 2-0.
Navdeep Saini was named man of the series while his bowling partner Shardul Thakur was named man of the match for his all-round performance. The fast bowler from Mumbai first played a cameo of 22 run off just 8 balls to launch India to 202 in their allotted 20 overs. And later with the ball he registered the brilliant figures (3-0-19-2).
Although the match was one sided as Sri Lanka were nowhere close to challenge India. But the spectators witnessed a magic moment that filled them with awe and joy in the second innings of the match.
The moment came 14th over of Sri Lankan innings when Indian leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal scored a direct hit at the non-striker end to catch his Sri Lankan counterpart short of the crease. On the fifth delivery of the over, Sri Lankan batsman Hasaranga hit a low full-toss from India pacer Shardul Thakur towards Chahal at mid-off and he set off for a non-existent run.
Yuzvendra Chahal attacked the ball as soon as he saw Hasaranga going for a run and the leg-spinner from India scored a direct hit to catch Hasaranga well short of the crease. After dismissing his counterpart Chahal burst out a good laughter as he and his team mates enjoyed the moment.
Sri Lanka did not even manage to play their full quota of overs as Navdeep Saini and Jasprit Bumrah along with Shardul Thakur make short work of the Sri Lankan batting line up. Sri Lanka folded out for just 123 runs in 15.5 overs.
