3 reasons why CSK may struggle if the IPL mega auction doesn’t happen in 2021

After CSK returned to IPL in 2018 post two-year ban, they prioritize experience instead of youth in mega-auction that year. The likes of Ambati Rayudu, Suresh Raina, MS Dhoni, Shane Watson, Faf du Plessis, Harbhajan Singh, Dwayne Bravo made the core of squad. The experienced campaigners did yield the result when CSK won the title in 2018 and make it to finals in 2019; but not investing in youth cost them on the big ground of UAE.

This year their batting looked out of fire and their bowling, which was handmade for the slow tracks of Chennai, lacked pace to trouble batsman in UAE. Absence of Harbhajan Singh and Suresh Raina, their two strong pillars in batting and bowling, hurt them badly as none of their replacement – N Jagdeesan, Ruturaj Gaikwad and Piyush Chawla- performed well.

With the IPL 2020 all but over for CSK, the franchise owners will look to rebuild team in next year’s mega auction. If next year mega auction will be postponed then Chennai Super Kings’ den may have to struggle to block the dampened holes of the team’s ship.

  1. Lack of Power-hitters in the team

With Shane Watson, Ambati Rayudu, Murli Vijay and Faf du Plessis all in their late 30’s, CSK management will look to form a new top -3 looking at next 3-year cycle.  Currently, the team appears to be deprived of swashbuckling power-hitters. They can comfortably deposit 30-40 odd runs in the team’s account single-handedly. Competing against the best teams who have ruthless power-hitters, the yellow outfit have been unable to live up to the billing.

  1. Kedhar Jadhav may continue to feature in the CSK’s XI

This will be huge challenge for CSK management as they have to find able replacements/options of Dhoni, Jadhav and Raina. However, Kedhar Jadhav has emerged as the biggest upset for the team. The 35-year-old could not play his role to perfection in the ongoing IPL. His slow knock at crucial time cost the team in the losing cause. However, with the mega auction apparently becoming a distant dream, Kedar may find his name in the CSK squad.

  1. Ideal Replacement of Suresh Raina

Suresh Raina played a very important role in the CSK team from past 10 years. He was the consistent perofrmer for them. But He opted himself out from IPL 2020 and CSK failed to find an ideal replacement of MR. IPL. If he won’t take part in the next year IPL then it would be a big loss for Chennai Super Kings. nable to fill the massive boots of the cricketing stalwart, the Chennai-based outfit continuous to search for an answer to this conundrum. Hence, the team owners remain at the spot of bother ahead of the 14th IPL.
