Ashwin – Buttler ‘Mankad saga’ is not leaving the off-spinner alone on and off the field even after six months of the incident. Fans and the cricket fraternity keep reminding and making fun of Ashwin over the incident time and again. The incident itself was a hot meme material as soon as it happened.
During 2019 season of Indian Premier League, R Ashwin took the world by surprise when he ‘mankaded’ Rajasthan Royals’ batsman Jos Buttler at non-striker’s end. After the runout, Rajasthan Royal- who were doing everything right in chase- stumbled and succumbed to defeat. Ashwin was also badly criticized and trolled for this incident on various Social Media platforms.
In a latest turn of events, on twitter, a Pakistan fan user mentioned R Ashwin in a tweet that has a clip from recently concluded England-Australia ODI series. In the decider of 3-match series, Australian pacer Mitchell Starc has an opportunity to ‘Mankad’ England’s Adil Rashid in the 49th over innings. However, the Australian pacer preferred to give warning instead of running him out.

With IPL on the corner, the incident reminisced ‘the Ashwin-Buttler saga’ in minds of cricket fans. While many of them appreciated Mitchell Starc for his gamesmanship. The fan from Pakistan advised R Ashwin to learn something from this incident.
However, for the witty customer Ashwin is, he preferred to take a back seat and discuss this incident a few days later. With the things turning out very interestingly on social media, only time will tell if the history repeats itself in the upcoming IPL. But with R Ashwin being traded to Delhi Capitals by Kings XI Punjab in IPL 2020 and Delhi Capitals coach Ricky Ponting clearly ruling out such method of dismissal, Ashwin is unlikely to ‘Mankad’ in upcoming IPL.
